History of the Chesterfield Sofa

This is a great question and one that has many many versions, some accurate and some, well, not so accurate. The simple fact is that a “Chesterfield sofa” is denoted quite simply by it very timeless and elegant straight arms and back.  More often than not they are buttoned but some of the most striking pieces I have ever had the pleasure of becoming acquainted with have no buttoning at all.  They are the most simple and elegant of pieces.  Here at Robinson of England we like doing things the way they should be. When we see beautiful antique pieces over 100 years old which still have years of life to give, we know they have been crafted with love, attention and importantly, crafted to a very high standard.  This is where the concept of the Robinson crafting of pieces come from. We craft all our pieces in a traditional way, which few crafting houses still continue, however we intend to continue this!  Every piece we craft we want to create legacy pieces which one day will be passed down and used for hundreds of years. The Rarity Of An Original Pair

In the world of furniture pairs are a very common occurrence. However, when it come to antiques, pairs are extremely rare! Antiques crafted over 100 years ago tend to be found alone either due to being only one piece crafted, the pair have been split or one piece has not stood the test of time. At Robinson of England we craft our pieces with the intention of them one day passing through auction houses, ageing beautifully and one day being true antiques in years to come. This is why when we craft a matching pair of pieces it is vitally important that they not only match, but both age and survive through time.  Here we have a stunning pair of our...
