The Pelham Chesterfield is an artful, refined piece of furniture with such a bold and historic expression.

Rather like Henry Pelham, British Prime Minister for eleven years in the late 18th century. In 1742 a union of parties resulted in the formation of an administration in which Pelham became Prime Minister the following year, with the offices of First Lord of the Treasury, Chancellor of the Exchequer and Leader of the House of Commons. Pelham is a PM with links quite literally close to home… his brother, Thomas Pelham-Holles, was the Duke of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and succeeded him at the helm of the government following Henry’s death in 1754.

This particular Pelham has even more political reference. It was crafted for a well known Scottish MP and found its way up to the capital city where it sat beautifully in situ. Its design is everything and more that you get with an antique Chesterfield sofa, only new. We finished this particular Manner 1 (scroll down to our crafting menu for more information on our crafting styles) Pelham in hand dyed saddle tan. It’s stunning! A solid beechwood frame crafted perfectly to the customer’s dimensions, before a fully coil sprung seat, back and arms offers a supreme base to the sofa. A layer of ginger fibre and then horse tail offers unrivalled comfort and longevity to this truly remarkable piece of furniture.
