This stunning chesterfield sofa is coming up to 100 years old and has proven that fine crafting leads to exceptional longevity.
This piece retains its original leather which has aged beautifully over time building a wonderful patina. Original leather on a piece of this age is a rarity and as this shows the leather is of exceptional quality lasting this long and still in such amazing condition!
This piece has been lovingly upholstered using natural fibres to ensure longevity and retain its traditional character. Horse hair and coconut hair are the filling of choice for pieces even today as natural fibres do not retain moisture. This increases the longevity of the piece drastically and also make it very very comfortable.
This piece has also been fully hand tacked, this method was traditionally used prior to the invention of staples however tacks still reign superior. Unlike staples, tacks will not rust or corrode, meaning once they are in place they will stay in place for the lifetime of the piece. This skill is rarely seen today due to the time involved, for example, to hand tack a sofa compared to modern staples, takes around an extra 60-70 hours of crafting!
