THE PELHAM CHESTERFIELD SOFA

British Prime Minister 1743-1754

The Pelham Chesterfield sofa is an artful, refined piece of furniture with such a bold and historic expression.

Rather like Henry Pelham, British Prime Minister for eleven years in the late 18th century. In 1742 a union of parties resulted in the formation of an administration in which Pelham became Prime Minister the following year, with the offices of First Lord of the Treasury, Chancellor of the Exchequer and Leader of the House of Commons. Pelham is a PM with links quite literally close to home… his brother, Thomas Pelham-Holles, was the Duke of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and succeeded him at the helm of the government following Henry’s death in 1754.
